Take a Look at the Pros and Cons of Organic Food
Campaign manager at the Organic Trade Board, Catherine Fookes, explains: “It’s a way of farming that protects and encourages wildlife while looking after the health of the soil. Instead of relying on chemicals, organic farmers work with nature to feed the soil and control pests. They use crop rotation and clover to build fertility in the soil.”
She adds: “Organic farming is designed and defined in law to minimise the use of pesticides, herbicides and antibiotics in food production.”
There’s no doubt about it that organic farming is a big pro to our environment. Without the use of chemicals such as pesticides and herbicides, the soil and the crops will be all natural with out contamination. Going organic is also great for your health. You won’t have to worry about whether or not your food contains chemicals and antibiotics.
So Why Aren’t We All Switching to Organic Food?
A lot of the pros of organic food are its benefits to your health?and the environment. On the other hand, the cons of organic food are few but very restrictive. The main cons about going organic are its rarity and high prices. Having to go to specialty stores and spending more than your budget is a significant disadvantage against organic food. Even though you want to help the environment and eat better for your health, it might not be in your budget.
Going Organic is a Financial Commitment
Buying organic foods is no doubt beneficial to our environment as well as your health. It reduces the soil and your body’s exposure from harmful chemicals such as herbicides and pesticides. The only bad thing about these healthy and environment-friendly crops are their prices and availability. Going organic can require serious financial commitment, but you can always buy locally grown food or grow your organic food to lessen the cost. Despite the cons, there’s always a way for you to go natural and to eat organic food only is a serious commitment with long term benefits.
