3 Organic Fall Skin Care Recipes
The wind and the cold outdoors sure do not help to keep skin soft and smooth, but you might be surprised to find out that intense indoor heating as well can be a shock to the skin after it braves an icy day. To keep dry and cracked lips and faces at bay (or to help combat dry skin once it surfaces) we’ve come up with several easy DIY projects that can ditch the dry and say hello to healthy!
Homemade Lotion Bars
Our first fall skin care recipe comes in the form of homemade lotion bars. These are perfect not only for soothing dry or cracked heels and elbows, but they also make cute little stocking stuffers (never too early to think ahead to Christmas!) To make these homemade bars you will need:
- 1 cup coconut oil
- 1 cup beeswax
- 1 cup shea butter
- 1 cup almond oil
- Essential oils of your own choice (lavender essential oil and lemon essential oil will mainly help with dry and flaky skin)
Place all ingredients except the essential oils into a quart-sized jar. Allow for a stock pot filled with water to boil and set the jar in the pot to allow all ingredients to melt thoroughly. After letting the mixture cool slightly, add your oils of choice and stir all ingredients together. Divide the mixture up and pour it into some silicone molds of your choice (the more festive, the better!) Allow these to sit overnight in order to harden completely, and then pop them out of the molds and place in small mason jars if you need them preserved – otherwise, enjoy the immediate feeling of relief as your skin instantly becomes smoother!
Essential Oil Mud Mask
Our next fall favorite is a new spin on an old classic – the essential oil mud mask. Safe for all skin types and so simple to use, it’s a no-brainer that we would include this healing and revitalizing recipe for our fall skin must-haves. To mix up this magical mud masks, you’ll need the following:
- Loose clay
- Rosewater
- A couple of drops of lavender essential oil (to combat facial bumps and smooth over any acne scars)
Yep, that’s all you need! Just add 3-4 teaspoons of your clay to enough rose water to make it into a paste – consistency, and texture regarding a thickness preference are really up to each user, as long as the mixture is not clumpy or excessively thick. Add two or three drops of your lavender essential oil to the concoction and then apply the wet clay to your face. Allow it to harden and dry, and leave on for about 15-20 minutes. Then rinse off with some warm water and pat your face dry with a towel and voila! Instantly soft, smooth, and rejuvenated skin!
Refreshing Chapsticks
Our final fall recipe is a must-have for anyone who has experienced the agony of dry and cracked lips that tends to arrive with the changing leaves. The recipe below can make about 12 chapsticks, so you can keep them all to yourself, or pass them out as holiday gifts (but your lips will feel so smooth, we won’t judge you if you want to be a bit stingy!)
You will need:
- Beeswax – 2 tablespoons
- Coconut oil – 2 tablespoons
- Shea butter – 2 tablespoons
- 12 lip balm containers
- A dropper
- A couple of drops of your favorite essential oil (we recommend tea tree essential oil)
Melt the beeswax in a small pan over low heat. Add the coconut oil and shea butter to melt all ingredients together. Next, drop in your essential oils. Using your medicine dropper, squeeze the mixture into the lip balm containers and allow them to cool completely to harden. Cover with the cap to preserve them, or as soon as they’ve cooled, try them out for size – we guarantee you’ll love it so much, you could quickly go through a pot a week! Maybe not such a bad idea to keep all 12 to yourself!
As magical and cozy as the fall season can be, we know that it can be quite tough on the health of your skin. These quick, cheap, and easy DIY recipes will keep you covered for autumn and ensure that you have a SMOOTH transition into winter!
